Until Eye on Winer goes after Dave’s employer and tries to jeopardize the income he uses to feed his family, there will be no comparison. Oh wait, Dave’s unemployed, independently wealthy, and doesn’t feed a family.

Until… hmm I bet other commenters could add quite a few such examples here.

Here’s a hint: If you don’t know the incidents I’m referring to, you’re not qualified to comment on any of the repartee here. And if you do, but still find Dave the sympathetic character here, be sure to post again and let us all know that you pick the millionare hypocrite sicko patriarch who says stuff like that, over the folks here at Eye on Winer.

Whoever may be thinking that Dave is only allowed to be fought by Dave’s Rules, on Dave’s Turf, where he can edit and delete and ban and contact your employer and point to children’s pictures and suggest raping them, think again. If it seems like it’d be more fair to attach names to these posts, think again. That doesn’t level the playing field, it lets a guy with all the free time in the world, with no wife or kids at risk of collateral damage, with no employer to call and start trouble with, try to destroy you and yours from his bully pulpit.

Dave is not worth the rhetorical space he takes up in the room, he’s not worth the energy he sucks out of the technology community, and he’s actively dis-earned any courtesy he’s not being shown here. If the Golden Rule is treat others as you’d have them treat you, we can only conclude that this actually falls far short of how badly Dave wants us to treat him.

Poor Dave indeed. Poor taste, poor judgement, poor social skills…

I hope you can see the difference between the two posts and how one is “ironic” and one really isn’t.

The point, in case it needs to be spelled out explicitly, would be how dave quotes an article talking about Crawford and her “abuse of people who refuse to bow to her, her control of the casting, direction, and production of her pictures” … if we change the name and the topic, you get:

“[Dave Winer]’s power — [his] abuse of people who refuse to bow to [him], [his] control of the [use, participation in, and innovation of] [RSS (etc)], is the disgrace of [the blogosphere].”

A website dedicated to viciously and trivially picking apart the minute details of Dave’s postings, atacks Dave for calling the blogosphere “mean-spirited” under the heading “Irony.” Indeed.
