Dave Winer, Lane Hartwell, and Pants
December 10th, 2007 by Bullshit MancusoDave Winer today on Twitter:
meanwhile @lanehartwell isn’t wearing pants again. that’s big news in twitterland, at least where i come from.![]()
This was in response to her comment …
i cannot seem to keep my pants on these days. wearing sweater, striped knee high socks and not much else.
A couple months ago, Winer published a picture of Hartwell’s chest under the heading “Objectified.” He also called her beautiful in linking to another photo he took on Scripting News.
Is there a context in which this isn’t completely ick? Winer’s excitement at the concept of Hartwell out of her pants is either unwelcome sexual attention — Anita Hill to the white courtesy phone please — or the first step in the blogfather’s elaborate mating ritual, to which I can only say, rent a (chat) room! Think of the children.

clearly, the semen is rising to dave’s temples. i do wish the boy well in getting rid of that sexual tension before it builds to a dangerous level. the question is whether any member of the female universe would consent? ah, one can hope there is a kind soul willing to do big dave a favor perhaps. if only he weren’t so thoroughly disagreeable.
oh well

Lane Hartwell has emerged as a serious power-player on the net: she is the photographer that used the power of the DMCA to get a viral video removed from YouTube because the video did not credit her for an image used.
The image in question appears for 1 second in a two minute video.
The image in question appears daily at:
http://blog.wired.com/business/2007/05/geeks_and_suits.html
On this Wired page she is duly credited for the work.
Th author of the video is Matt Hempey. He created the video as a lark and as PR for his acapela group “The Richter Scales”. They don’t expect to get rich anytime soon singing acapela…
The only good to come from this “news event” is the extra PR for the now infamous Richter Scales and the PR Lane will get that she has photos to sell.
It appears all parties to the dispute have their pants on.
Dave Winer may have taken his off after returning from his European tour.

Surely I’m not the only one who drew the connection between Dave’s two posts on how old Scripting News is today (> 10 years) and Wired News’s recognition of Robot Wisdom as the originator of the term ‘blog’ exactly ten years ago today.
