Scoble who, as much as I like him, is something of a Dave Winer lap-dog most of the time, has a take on Dave’s FeedBurner paranoia. Hare are the comments Dave left:
- Whoa, I got as far as “stolen” and stopped there. I never said that, and I don’t think it. That is so off the wall and inflamatory. Please correct the post. Comment by Dave Winer — July 22, 2007 @ 4:54 pm
- And the ability to switch your feed off Feedburner has NOTHING to do with this issue. You’re mixing apples and oranges. Please everybody think just a little bit before flying away into neverland. Comment by Dave Winer — July 22, 2007 @ 4:55 pm
- The rest of your post is right. The big companies, including Google, are trying to take control of RSS, and it’s in contradiction to the roadmap, and just plain wrong. I’ve asked them to stop, and so far they’ve ignored the request. Thanks for raising the issue publicly. Comment by Dave Winer — July 22, 2007 @ 4:58 pm
I find it interesting that Dave is asking us to “think a little bit” before “flying away into neverland” while simultaneously posting 3 comments in 4 minutes because he hadn’t taken time to even finish reading the post. Heh.
What I do see, however, is Dave changing his argument. I went back and read his original post and I’m not seeing how it relates, at all, to the new RSS Advisory Board changing the spec. What I see sounds a whole lot more like Tom’s comment on my last post.
Either way, it’s funny — Dave is still trying to control RSS. Thank god the man never had children. Can you imagine? He’d be that grouchy old dad trying to tell his 40 year old son how to live his life. It’s a scary thought.
PS: It’s also worth noting that Scoble was hilariously wrong about switching away from feedburner.
