Monday Notes

July 30th, 2007 by EyeOnWiner

Today, Dave points to a post that carries his water for him. Why does Firefox hate Dave RSS America?

He also asks about user-generated-content. Specifically, who “owns” Netflix ratings. The answer, of course, is both Netflix and the user own them. He says “[users] should be able to take it where they want.”

Fact is, they can. As is evidenced by the fact that Dave has his ratings in two places. Is there an easy way? No. But I don’t think the users are entitled to an easy way. If you don’t like the fact that a certain service won’t let you export your data, keep track of it somewhere else. Supply, demand, etc.

Easy.

  1. When’s Dave going to share his users’ OPML on Share Your OPML? It’s a joke that he’s calling out NetFlix for keeping user data.

Regarding Ed Kohler’s echoing of dave’s whine, Google announced their support for ATOM feeds long ago, when they chose Atom as the default for Blogger feeds. Users have a right to consistency in standards, and Google is right to stick with Atom systemwide. I guarantee you that Google chose Atom, in part, to avoid becoming encumbered by RSS, a standard controlled a capricious megalomaniac named dave who would screw you over on a whim.

P.S. someone else has been commenting here using my handle “zaphodim” and I would appreciate if they would allow me continued exclusive use of that name. You don’t want to get mixed up in my history anyway. Thank you.

Regarding Firefox… their documentation states that the “best format should be displayed” if more than one is offered by a page. They display Atom.

Dave will NOT take that lightly.

RSS is frozen… timeless… pointless at this point. But always worth defending.

Since when is there just one Zaphodim? The term “Zaphodim” goes back to WinerLog days and refers to the fact that there are many Zaphods, each of whom thinks Dave’s the king of douchebags.

  5. zaphodim says:

Sure zaphodim is plural and refers to WinerLog’s Zaphod, but I have used this name in lots of places, ever since the WinerLog shut down. The author of Eye on Winer knows me personally by this name, so please don’t confuse him into thinking your writings are from me. Maybe you can be Zaphodim 2 or something.

“Back in the day”: tell us about the WinerLog Zaphodim or Zaphodim2.

Has Winer watching been going on for all “Ten Years of Blogging?” or less?

Dave thinks Winer-bashing is a cottage industry. But there’s no real money in it. f there was he’d sue for his unfair share.

  8. WinerLog began as a parody site written by Greg Knauss that was more funny than harsh. After about three weeks he ran out of steam, then another publisher took over who was more harsh than funny. I’d name the most likely author, but fuck that. He deserves our love and respect.

Under the second author, WinerLog bounced around for years on free weblog hosts. At some point a mailing list was involved and it became briefly viewable by the public, enabling Dave to read the full archives and revel in Nixonian fantasies about vengeance.

After WinerLog finally died, Eye on Winer came along. I have no idea who the author is, but I wish he’d bring on the other Zaphodim and a few more seasoned Dave-hating vets. The fact that he registered eyeonwiner.com is proof this site is getting to him. This makes my heart sing.

From now on, I’ll comment here as Bullshit Mancuso.

Just to re-iterate from a previous post, I’m willing to give basically any like-minded individuals posting privileges… under their own name, under a pseudonym, or even purely anonymous. Anyone who wants to come on board is welcome, as Winer produces more “watchable” material than any one part-time watcher could really cover.

winer bashing is always a growth industry. The more people dave interacts with, the more mortal enemies he makes. The “wiener boys” (as dave calls them) have very little in common except that they have all been screwed over by dave, and all of us have an intense motivation to see dave get what’s coming to him.

In any case, I’m considering making more contributions to this blog, which I sort of planned to do under the pseudonym “zaphodim” so I’d appreciate being allowed my own voice. It’s no big deal but hey, there’s no sense in muddying the waters, especially for those winer-suckups I’ve already battled under this name, on this blog.

  11. McD says:

Yes… It would be nice to have more content here. It may not be a cottage industry but there’s plenty to comment on and a lot gets missed.

Beyoind “Eye on Winer” there’s “Iz on Winer”.

Let’s “fact check” his ego like any good blog community is alleged to do.
