This Ought to be Interesting

April 7th, 2007 by EyeOnWiner

Dave has been whining about lawyers lately. I attribute this, mainly, to a simple, innocent ignorance about the legal profession. I haven’t had time to look through all of the documents, but I did read the most recent motion that was filed and it looks perfectly reasonable.

Of course since Dave disagrees with his former attorneys they’re obviously “abusing the system” and filing “frivolous” motions. (an allegation which is likely libellous)

This wasn’t the typical abstract whining about some perceived wrongness, this is a specific reaction to winer’s getting sued. Apparently you missed winer’s earlier post on March 27 where he detailed how and why he’s being sued, and his “generous” offer of settlement. Apparently the other Userland stockholders believe that the domain weblogs.com was a corporate asset, but winer sold it for $2.5 million and kept all the money for himself. His suggestion was an offer of $250k. I wonder what winer would think if HE was on the receiving end such a pathetic offer.

I wasn’t aware of the entire back story, so thanks for that update, but Winer certainly did project this perceived wrong onto the entire legal community.

Specifically, the first paragraph of the linked post talks about lawyers in general and demonstrates a vast, vast misunderstanding about how our legal system works.

Seriously, you’ve been taking your eye of the winer lately.

I think you should hang it up. Pick an anniversary and threaten to quit. Then just keep going to piss off your critics. :^)
