Amen, Dave

January 21st, 2008 by EyeOnWiner

I never thought I’d say a day in which Dave wrote an EoW post for us. Observe:

[C]riticizing [him] is a messy business. It’s easier to say nothing.

It happens so often in discourse on the net, there are so many subjects that are taboo, people you can’t talk about without provoking personal attacks. The net is just as good at distributing personal attacks as it is at distributing accurate information. I guess it’s not a big surprise, given the course of every other medium, that as the blogging world matures, there are more attacks and less accurate information.

But when we don’t say anything we give up a bit of our future. And when you factor in that there are many products, people and companies who are poison in this way, what you end up with is another bubble, created out of the things we don’t want to talk about.

I think it’s better to take the hits in little increments than continue to build flawed businesses, built on incorrect premises.

Of course, Dave wrote this about Someone else, but I’ve never met anyone else about whom this is more true than it is of Dave.

See? No personal attacks here, Dave.

wow, the meds must have worn off. why on earth would he rehash all this nonsense from 07. what’s really funny is the passive-aggressive way he lays it out. btw, check out the BS hit-and-run dialogue in the feedback to his idiotic post. jason responded – normally, IMHO – but dave just used that as another reason to slime him. i must say that in all my time watching winer, he never ceases to disappoint. what’s amazing is how so many in the blogosphere actually care what he says. the signs are that folks are finally getting hip to his act and seeing the guy’s act for what it is.

anyay, keep keeping `em honest, eye.

What I simply don’t get is his blindness to being exactly what he preaches about. If dave was just an arrogant prick, that’s great. Lots of them around. But the fact that he talks as if he’s a peace, loving hippy when in fact dave winer attacks people like a bulldog constantly boggles my mind.

Just posted by Dave Winer on twitter…

had a f2f meeting with a famous blogger who said he disagreed with something i wrote. i asked why not blog your disagreement.

he said he didn’t want to offend me. i wish more people would air disagreement. set an example. keeping quiet is not a good thing.
