Brilliant Technologist

Dave penned a fairly lengthy screed about how much Comcast sucks. He’s right, of course. Comcast does suck. But that doesn’t make certain parts of his post less eye-roll enducing.

The recording said I was talking to their legal services department, Press 1 if you are stealing content, 2 if you are using too much bandwidth, 3 if Comcast hates your guts, 4 if you’re a criminal. (I don’t remember the exact wording, this wasn’t it, but the implication was that I was guilty of abuse,

Of course, if you took the time to actually listen to the recording that he posted, you’d hear something else entirely. It says “If you are . . . a Comcast customer calling about a DMCA copyright infringement issue, please press 1″ otherwise stay on the line. Then it asks if you’re having an email issue, or if your service was disconnected for “a network abuse incident”. I love how Dave thinks adding “this wasn’t the exact wording” to the end of a bold-faced lie makes it okay.

I also told him I was a blogger and would be writing it up. He didn’t care.

How many times does Dave have to threaten someone with this before he realizes that nobody cares that he’s a blogger? I mean, really. Customer service people don’t (generally) give a damn about PR, and that’s assuming the blogger actually has enough readers to generate PR. It’s the equivalent of “I’m going to tell all of my friends that you’re a big doo-doo head.”

I knew, having dealt with lawyers enough, that I had a right to receive the threat in writing,

Heh. If only this were true. Looks like Dave needs to “deal with” lawyers a little more. And by “deal with” I mean “hire one” so that he can stop making patently stupid statements like this on his blog. Also, newsflash for you Dave: they can pretty much disconnect your service at any time, threat or no. That’s life.

8. What’s the big issue with bandwidth anyway? Does a company like Comcast pay their ISP for bandwidth? Do they even have an ISP?

For someone who purports to know about technology, Dave sure is a half-wit. He had to have “bandwidth” explained to him by a commenter.

If you give someone a phone number, disconnect it, don’t tell them and they call it, does it make a sound?

“. . . .who told me I had been deliberately disconnected because they had tried to call me and I didn’t pick up. The number they called was my Blackberry, which I disconnected a couple of months ago because I never use it, I much prefer the iPhone.”

Comcast should be reading his blog… then they’d know he wasn’t using his blackberry anymore.

Excellent point. Stupid Comcast. It could be so easy.

Some might see that as poetic justice.
