Dave is Sexist
February 10th, 2008 by EyeOnWiner…and he discriminates against men. Can you imagine someone telling him something he just said was stupid, and his reply being happy and smiley?
Have a look:
DaveWiner: Maybe the illegal immigrant issue is the only remaining acceptable form of racism. Business likes cheap labor and (I thought) Republicans.
AmandaChapel: with all due respect, that’s just a stupid thing to say.
DaveWiner: well, hopefully you’ll forgive me if I respectfully disagree with your statement about the stupidity of what I said.![]()
Compare that to “complain again and I’ll block you“.
It’d be interesting to go back and see if his attitude is different with respect to women who are not attractive and/or do not appear attractive in their user pictures on twitter… my guess is that it would be.

Amanda is one of winer’s sycophants, so of course she gets a free pass. I just checked Tweetscan and here’s what’s at the top:
“amandachapel : I think Dave Winer should get an award for utilizing Twitter for something meaningful. Seriously. I look forward to his tweets.”
It looks like this was posted right after the exchange you quoted.
I’m quite enjoying the tweetscan service, there’s some discussion of how dave is like Norm and scoble is like Cliff Claven.

Amanda Chapel Search:
She describes her new blog as “A Naked Journal of the PR Business,” and includes a naked (if carefully posed) photo.
She calls herself Strumpette . And plenty of smart people are trying to figure out who she is, especially after reading her bio. Under the name Amanda Chapel, it says: “I have 15 plus years experience in marketing communications . . . I am 5′ 4″ tall, athletic, Pantene shoulder-length black hair, perfect perky boobs. I present well and am most accomodating. I’ve slept with clients. I sleep with my boss. I am the consummate PR strumpette.”With a mix of industry news, gossip, criticism and sex items, Strumpette.com sprinkles high-toned dissections of the flaws and foibles of the PR business with personal insults and the occasional expletive. Strumpette’s posts are quite pugnacious, under such headlines as “PR Mega-Firm’s CEO Caught in Big Lie,” “Exposing the Communist Blogifesto” and “Word-of-Mouth Marketing: Viagra for the PR Business.”

Dave is definately a straight male. He is invariably civil to attractive women.
It’s a flaw I share with him.

His civil behavior is not directly correlated to attractiveness. I am reminded of this photo set taken at his home:

Amanda Chapel is a man, baby. Google her name and Brian Connolly and you’ll find all kinds of links outing him as her creator.
Connolly rips the shit out of people from his Chapel pen name. James Robertson found this out recently.

Haha that’s rich. Dave’s accidently being nice to a man because he thinks she’s pretty.
February 11th, 2008 at 10:46 am
Maybe Brian Connolly IS pretty. Or Dave has tunred a new leaf and is learning to be civil with someone that questions something he said or wrote.
Maybe we fixed him with our warm regards and gentle persuasion.
Ok… let me have it.

Dave refers to a West Wing TV scene where the Republican candidate (James Brolin) and the POTUS running for re-election are left alone to chat:
RITCHIE: Oh. Crime. Boy, I don’t know.
BARTLET: [sighs] We should have a great debate, Rob. We owe it to everyone. When I was running as a governor, I didn’t know anything. I made them start Bartlet college in my dining room. Two hours every morning on foreign affairs and the military. You can do that.
RITCHIE: How many different ways you think you’re gonna find to call me dumb?
BARTLET: I wasn’t, Rob. But you’ve turned being un-engaged into a Zen-like thing, and you shouldn’t enjoy it so much is all, and if it appears at times as if I don’t like you, that’s the reason why.
RITCHIE: You’re what my friends call a superior sumbitch. You’re an academic elitist and a snob. You’re, uh, Hollywood, you’re weak, you’re liberal, and you can’t be trusted. And if it appears from time to time as if I don’t like you, well, those are just a few of the many reasons why.
(”Hail to the Chief ” starts to play in the background)
BARTLET: They’re playing my song…. In the future, if you’re wondering, “Crime. Boy, I don’t know” is when I decided to kick your ass.
===============================
Dave mentions this exchange in regard to him getting advice on how to move MP3’s onto an iPod for his PodCatcher. Of course, everyone is telling him that iTunes does that job pretty well. Un-huh.
But Dave needs to control the end device. Been there. Done that. Remember Adam Curry and his Applescript hack? The solution then was written by Andrew Grumet in python. And some guys in Europe in Java. And by Apple with iTunes.
iTunes controls that target and they can change the application, the firmware and anything else and it’s a moving target.
Anyway, I guess Dave is the Republican in this case dealing with smart-ass Mac Users.
It is hard when you just want the “ANSWE*R” to your current problem and everyone insists on giving you useless advice. Been there. Done that.
How about you?
