Dave on Convention

August 26th, 2008 by EyeOnWiner

WE’RE HAPPY, DAMNIT! Who’s he trying to convince, us or himself? Actually, because Dave projects his every emotion onto the world, all this really means is that he’s happy and at the DNC. There could be fist-fights in the street and he’d still be saying everyone is happy.

In other news, via anonymous tip, Dave claims, in the comments to this post to have donated $1,000 to Obama’s campaign but neither OpenSecrets nor the FEC has heard of him. The reporting minimum is $200 in aggregate (2 U.S.C. 434), so even though Dave claims to have made ten $100 donations, he should still be showing up on these lists.

That is, if he’s actually donated anything. It would be a silly thing to lie about, but what’s the reasonable explanation?

  1. Sanity Check Says:

Should it seem strange that he insisted on being at this convention, and so far hasn’t posted anything of substance? Only complaining about how bloggers were being treated (despite that being the wrong room?)

    What was the point?

In Dave’s defense, they do have him in the clouds. His view of the convention is far worse than someone watching on tv. So he gets to talk about protesters and dogs wearing obama sweaters to fill time.

  3. Bullshit Mancuso Says:

My thoughts exactly, Sanity. Could it be more obvious that Dave doesn’t give a shit about politics? Aside from declaring it a happy convention, he hasn’t said a word about an issue or a leader through the first three days of the event. Today he’s talking up some dumb tech subject he could’ve covered any other day of the year. His political lizard brain has died from disuse.

  4. EyeOnWiner Says:

Maybe he’s finally seeing what people who really know something about politics talk about and has realized he can’t really compete with them?

Yeah, I know, perish the thought.

  5. Tom Says:

This has always been his MO. He isn’t “for” anything he’s “against” stuff.

Look at RSS. Version .91 came out at the beginning of July ’99 and Winer didn’t make any effort to update it for over a year. Then the RSS newsgroup made a proposal he didn’t like in August of 2000 and a few months later Winer releases version .92. The truth is he was never really interested in pushing RSS forward he just didn’t want someone else playing with “his” toy (as shown by the fact that he “froze” the spec the next chance he got).

Same here, the guy drives around a car that gets like 20 miles to the gallon (and brags about it on his blog), is suspicious of any Government (much less big government), and whines when the candidate he loves asks for a donation (so I can only imagine how he’s going to react when said candidate demands more tax money from him to help those less fortunate). So what Democratic principles does he really stand for?

The truth is Dave Winer believes in one Democratic Party principle and that’s “hate Republicans”

Dave will walk away and talk about the great strides he made in political blogging, about opening up the conventions to bloggers, about how blogging influences the outcome of the elections, and how he’s responsible for it all.

He’ll also lament the fact that the candidates (and eventually) the President do not have a cabinet post for bloggers or that all they want is donations from bloggers.

He never lets reality distort his self-vision.

  7. KyleOrLyle Says:

Wow, hilarious if he’s just a liar about his donations. He probably considers writing about donating on his blog a donation that is worth $100. After all, he does want Obama to call him up for advice.

I also can’t find Scoble in there ever donating to the Edwards campaign. Wasn’t he all gung ho on Edwards?
