Why am I not shocked? The most intelligent people I know are always fascinated to be called out, proven wrong, intellectually bested, or otherwise challenged on their thoughts, opinions, or consistency.

For Dave, it’s “boring” to have someone come in and lay bare the fact that, despite claiming to be an “independent”, he’s really just a liberal shill.

It won’t change winer’s opinion. You’re either with winer or against him. He’s a man-child.

What is the point of this comment, if not to declare that you are an important person while Marco is a nobody beneath your notice? What an asshole.

I am a little stymied by the fact that he keeps using phrases like “you can have this kind of thing on your site not mine” – my follow up comment was not meant to draw Dave into further conversation and nothing I have said thus far has demanded that Dave must allow every comment on his own blog.

The fact is that I agree passionately with him about the need for a change in the way we discuss issues as a society and I strongly believe that the innovations of social media apps will continue to provide us a way to do that.

Had he never made any statements indicating a desire to see changes in the way we debate ideas I never would have bothered.

I can disagree with the ideological underpinnings of the Democratic Party or candidates like Obama while still granting that they are ideas presented by good people who ultimately desire what is best for the nation at large. While it is easy to identify that approach as one that is central to our ability to change the reality is that we will continue to propagate the status quo unless individuals like Dave who are looked to as thought leaders within their social networks take the first step.

It may be a meta disagreement, but it’s certainly not a personal attack.

Further, I’ll add, he didn’t call you a hypocrite. He said that one pair of behaviors was hypocritical. Remarkable difference there… the only “name” he called you in his comment was “Dave”, and I’m pretty sure that’s acceptable.

What was he disagreeing with me about? I got that he was insulted and was calling me a hypocrite and some other names (very illuminating!), I didn’t see much else other than a disclaimer it might be hard to believe it wasn’t a shrill attack.

Reminds me of the Dale Bumpers line where he said “If they say this is not about sex — it’s about sex.”
