Tweet Scan

February 2nd, 2008 by EyeOnWiner

So I’ve gotten a few emails about Tweet Scan which is nifty for a few reasons. For our purposes here, it allows unmitigated access to things people are saying about Dave. So far the biggest problem I’ve found is that I can’t seem to find a way to put an “or” operator in the search… so while it would be ideal to have a joint listing of all twits that contained either “winer” or “davewiner”, it seems that you have to pick one or the other.

At any rate, I’ve added the Tweet Scan for “davewiner” to the sidebar. There’s a lot of interesting stuff on there.

Ah, I commented about Tweetscan in your previous blog post. Thanks for giving this a little promotion.

However, I noted your sidebar searches on “davewiner” which seems to pull up only tweets directly addressed to winer. It would probably be preferable to search for “winer” since that is how most people refer to him in casual conversations.

(Of course, now that I post it, the site seems slow as hell, which might make your sidebar slow to load. Temporary problem? No idea.)

    I guess we’ll find out.

OK, I’ve been following this for a few days, it is fairly clear that the sidebar is only pulling up twitter messages with “davewiner” in it. If you go to Tweetscan and seach on “winer” you get a whole different set of messages. The sidebar is full of messages TO winer, all of them are suckups. The Tweetscan pulls up what people are saying ABOUT winer, and it’s almost 100% negative.

Until we can get BOTH “Davewiner” and “winer”, I’m going to stick with the former.

Well, if you search on “winer’ you get “davewiner” too. But proceed as you see fit, I’m not trying to be critical, just trying to include dave’s detractors as well as his sycophants.

  7. EyeOnWiner says:

I don’t believe that’s the case. I just did a search, and ‘winer’ turned up zero occurrences of the phrase ‘davewiner’

Well, that’s probably because I searched “winer” on Tweet Scan, which does pick up “davewiner” too. Don’t know what’s up with the Terraminds gadgetry, all I know is that it appears to be only picking up tweets with “davewiner” in them, which means it’s only picking up tweets targeted @davewiner.

Oh well, I guess Terraminds’ substring search feature doesn’t work, maybe they’ll get it working someday. I’m just trying to find a way to make it easy to access tweets from all of winer’s critics, not just his fanbois. But thanks for working on this, I appreciate it.

I used tweet scan. “winer” does not pick up “davewiner”.

Not a single “davewiner” on that whole page.

Ah, it seems you were more observant than I was. I was so blinded by the wonderful criticisms of “winer” that didn’t appear under “davewiner” that I didn’t correctly observe what was happening. I just think the comments about winer are far more interesting than the comments TO winer. Thanks for looking at the tools more closely. It is my firm opinion that we need all the tools we can get to track winer’s activities, in whatever media he moves into. The EOW crew is dedicated and persistent, but tracking the profligate posts of winer is beyond human capacity. BTW, I had to laugh about another notorious asshole showing up in the “winer” tweetscan: guy kawasaki
