Over His Head

October 3rd, 2007 by EyeOnWiner

Although I’ve discussed at some length before why nobody in their right mind would allow Dave to demo a product, he still seems to think that he has some sort of authority to review all new gadgets. If he doesn’t think so, his choice of words is interesting to say the least (emphasis mine):

Microsoft announces a new Zune in the NY Times. Okay, but did they seed any bloggers? Feels like they keep going over our heads. I’ve heard nothing from Microsoft PR. Do I have to buy a Zune to evaluate it? Unless it’s an unqualified home run, wouldn’t it be smart to first market it to people who might work with them to smooth it out? They say they want to build community. Wouldn’t it make sense to use the communities that are already interested in this stuff??

In this context he uses the word “our”, which isn’t quite as pompous, although I would swear that the first time I read this post it said “over my head”. That would make sense considering his recent Tweet:

Once I read about something in the NY Times, it feels like they’ve gone over my head. Am I going to have to buy a Zune to check it out?

Oh, yeah, heaven forbid he has to spend some of his millions of dollars to play with a toy. He obviously feels entitled to get advance copies of all new gadgets… but I still wonder why. He’s hopelessly incompetent when it comes to using them. There’s something to be said for getting a lay opinion about the usability and intuitiveness of a device, but Dave has demonstrated in the past that he’s either woefully obtuse and/or lacks any patience for things that don’t work exactly as he thinks they ought to.
